Dr. Lara Boyd and Dr. Judy Illes are nominees for the 2017 YWCA Women of Distinction awards. All YWCA Women of Distinction nominees are eligible to win the Connecting the Community Award, which raises vital funds for women and children across Metro Vancouver. Congratulations

Dr. Shannon Kolind has received an MS Society of Canada grant for a study in MS progression called Establishing an imaging biomarker for disease progression in multiple sclerosis. Using a quantitative MRI technique in the brain and spinal cord pioneered at UBC (myelin water imaging), she will look at myelin as a potential biomarker for disease progression in MS. With new potential therapies for progressive MS on the horizon, this project could allow for more efficient clinical trials to establish effective treatment options for the disease.

Dr. Terrance Snutch was recently inducted as a Fellow in the National Academy of Inventors, receiving the highest professional distinction accorded to academic inventors in recognition of his work as a “luminary of innovation and invention.”

Dr. Kalina Christoff is a 2017/18 Wall Scholar. The Wall Scholars Research Award is available to UBC Faculty members to spend one year in residence at the Institute in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. During her tenure as a Wall Scholar, Dr. Christoff will focus on building a new interdisciplinary field dedicated to the study of human imagination.

Dr. Judith Hall, Professor Emerita within the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics, will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree from UBC for her substantial contributions to society.

Pauline Luczynski (PI: Dr. Helen Tremlett) has received a Foundation of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers Medical Student Research Scholarship.
