Congratulations to DMCBH faculty members Drs. Naznin Virji-Babul (Physical Therapy, Neuroscience) and Scott Ramsay (Nursing), along with PhD student Samir Damji (Neuroscience), who have been selected as one of five UBC teams to receive funding through UBC’s Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) PhD Collab pilot program.
Their project asks a bold and timely question: “Can Artificial Intelligence be a meaningful member of the team?”
They will be collaborating through UBC Health with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, including Drs. Cristina Conati (Computer Science), Muhammed Abdul-Mageed (Linguistics, School of Information, Computer Science), Christie Newton (Family Practice, AVP Health) and Sian Tsuei (Population and Public Health), in addition to two other PhD students.
With this support from G+PS and matching funds from UBC Health, the team will explore how AI can be thoughtfully integrated into team-based primary care, working within the new Gateway Team-Based Care Teaching Clinic—a space designed to advance collaborative care models and real-world health system innovation.
The primary objectives of the PhD Collab program are to provide new opportunities for teams of PhD students and faculty members to work together on the co-production of new knowledge and applications to address complex questions or problems.
