In February, Dr. Diamond was invited by Bill Gates to attend a private meeting of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative with the Global Good Fund at Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle, where she provided a researcher’s perspective on executive function and how to improve executive function in kids.

Dr. Julie Robillard has received a 2019 P2P Award for her project, Pediatric pain management: Co-design of a patient experience study. Offered in partnership with MSFHR, the P2P (Pathway to Patient-Oriented Research) Awards provide up to $20,000 to support BC-based teams of researchers and research users as they pilot and test the feasibility of their research to strengthen a major national or international grant application.

Dr. Lily Zhou (Neurology resident, PI: Dr. Thalia Field) will recieve the 2019 Alliance Awards: Founders from the American Academy of Neurology. The Alliance Awards: Founders is being given in recognition of Dr. Zhou's outstanding achievements in Cerebrovascular Disease and Interventional Neurology research. 

Drs Jianjia Fan and Jerome Robert (PI: Dr. Cheryl Wellington) have been awarded Rapid Response funding from the Weston Brain Insitute for their project, Targeting ACL signaling for Alzheimer's disease and apolipoprotein E regulationDr. Robert has also been awarded Rapid Response funds for his project, Utilizing a transformative model of bioengineered human cerebral vessels toward development of a patient-centered assays of Aβ clearanceThe Rapid Response: Canada 2018 program provides seed funding for high-risk, high-reward, translational research projects on neurodegenerative diseases of aging.

Dr. B. Lynn Beattie has been inducted into the 2019 Vancouver Coastal Health Medical Staff Hall of Honour.

Dr. Anne Martin-Matthews has been appointed the new Associate Vice-President, Health at UBC.

DMCBH researchers at the BC Legislature

Researchers including Dr. Teresa Liu-Ambrose and Dr. Leigh Anne Swayne joined the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research at the BC Legislature on February 27, 2019, to share their research stories and the relevance and impact of their research programs on British Columbians.
