New member: Dr. Shelina Babul

Dr. Shelina Babul is the Associate Director and Sports Injury Specialist for the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCRIPU) and has been involved in various injury prevention strategies and initiatives over the past 17 years.

Dr. Babul focuses primarily on sport and recreational evidence-based research, particularly in the area of concussion/minor traumatic brain injuries and their prevention, recognition, treatment and management. Her recent focus has been on raising awareness and understanding of the burden of concussions on both patients and care providers. With her BCRIPU colleagues, Dr. Babul recently launched the Concussion Awareness Training Tool, a set of online toolkits to help parents, coaches, and medical professionals better help prevent, recognize, treat and manage concussions.

In addition to her role with BCIRPU, Dr. Babul is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics with a cross-appointment in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, UBC; an Investigator with the Child & Family Research Institute; chair of the BC Concussion Advisory Network (BC CAN); and co-chair of the BC Sport and Recreation Injury Prevention Advisory Committee.

She has joined the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health for the collaborative opportunities the Centre offers, and looks forward to engaging with the DMCBH community.
