Become a Member

Membership Guidelines 

Thank you for your interest in being a member of the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health (DMCBH). As a world leader in neuroscience research, the Centre’s success depends on its dedicated members who are committed to excellence. The Centre’s current members are experts in the fields of neuroscience, neurology, psychiatry and rehabilitation, and they work together as part of an integrative team to advance brain research.

DMCBH membership is approved by the Centre’s Executive Committee. The term for a full membership is five years. Following this time frame, a new application package must be submitted to renew membership status. Current members who have never filled out this form must also do so in order to secure official continued membership status.

Please carefully review the criteria below to determine whether you should be applying for a full membership position or an associate membership position Any questions about the application process can be directed to Chris Crossfield (chris.crossfield@ubc.ca). 

Completed applications can be sent to Chris (chris.crossfield@ubc.ca). Please include your last name in the title of your completed application and include a headshot which will be used on the website.  

Full Membership 

Criteria: 

  • Hold a current academic or clinical faculty appointment at either campus of UBC (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor)
  • Have an interest in brain or mental health research and/or education in this field, and who are actively contributing (or will actively contribute) to the DMCBH community

Benefits:

  • Project funding opportunities such as DMCBH Seed Grants and other initiatives
  • Trainee funding opportunities (graduate studentships, postdoctoral and clinical fellowships)
  • Access to core research facilities including the Neuroimaging and Neurocomputational Core (NINC) and the Preclinical Discovery Centre (PDC). Please note that cost-recovery charges may apply
  • Access to internal peer review and mentorship
  • Access to Grant Facilitation
  •  Invitation to DMCBH events. This applies to the PI and when applicable, to their trainees and research staff as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Show evidence of ongoing scholarly contributions to the field of neuroscience
  • Acknowledge DMCBH affiliation on all publications, presentations and posters
  • Attend weekly DMCBH Neuroscience Colloquia and other annual DMCBH research and education events
  • Commit to actively contributing to the DMCBH’s success via involvement in one or more of the following:
  • Internal review of member grants
  • Mentorship of fellow members
  • Teaching in undergraduate and graduate neuroscience courses (portion of course(s))
  • Serving on Neuroscience graduate student supervisory committees and examination committees (e.g., MSc defense, PhD comprehensive exam, PhD University exam)
  • Serve on DMCBH committees and/or take part in leadership roles
  • Assist with DMCBH research, education, fundraising and community events

Associate Membership

Criteria: 

  • Hold an academic appointment at a Canadian university OR hold a current academic or clinical faculty appointment at either UBC campus but with a primary interest or commitment outside of the DMCBH
  • Be sponsored by a Full DMCBH Member. This can be any full member who have you a good working relationship with (for example, someone you've collaborated on research with, someone you sit on a committee with, etc.)

Benefits:

  • Invitation to all DMCBH events. This applies to the PI and when applicable, to their trainees and research staff as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Show evidence of ongoing scholarly contributions to the field of neuroscience
  • Attend weekly DMCBH Neuroscience Colloquia and other major annual DMCBH research and education events.
